Category Proteomics>Mass Spectrometry Analysis/Tools

Abstract BioTools™ provides support to mass spectrometry-based proteomics and protein analysis.

BioTools has been developed to translate mass spectral information into knowledge in both major approaches for proteomics and protein analysis: screening approaches generating high amounts of data and in-depth analysis of single or a low number of proteins, such as modifications, polymorphisms or splice variants.

Features of BioTools for automated protein identification via library search -

1) Protein identification as a batch process using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF) fingerprint, Protein Sequence Database (PSD) and complete liquid chromatography- tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) data.

2) Search result judgement by Fuzzy Logic.

3) Batch result reporting, including visualization of MALDI-TOF results in MTP viewer format.

4) De-novo sequencing support.

Features of BioTools for protein structural analysis --

1) Seamless link of MS and MS/MS spectra and web-based library searches.

2) Automatic MS and MS/MS spectra annotation based on protein sequences.

3) Sequence handling with full support of cross-links and modifications.

4) Screening tools for post-translational modifications (PTMs).

5) Fine-structure characterization of proteins.

6) De-novo sequencing by RapiDeNovo module.

7) Mass Spectrometry-Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (MS-BLAST) homology search support.

BioTools Technical Data --

1) Support of flex™ series MALDI-TOF MS, esquire™ series ESI-Ion Trap MS, APEX™ FTMS, BioTOF™ ESI-TOF MS.

2) MASCOT (see G6G Abstract Number 20087) Intranet search software (Matrix Sciences, Ltd.) fully integrated.

3) Full support of proprietary databases in FASTA format.

4) Customer-specific modifications supported.

5) Copy and paste for spectra export.

Note: BioTools is designed for the interpretation of MS and MS/MS spectra of protein digests or peptides obtained with the full range of Bruker Daltonics ESI and MALDI instruments.
