Abstract The Sentient Suite (“Sentient”) integrates data, applications, databases, and instruments into one secure, compliant and interoperable environment.

Researchers can access, query, and utilize data from multiple sources regardless of format and location, using existing hardware and IT infrastructure.

It allows non-IT users (researchers and subject matter experts) as well as IT experts to integrate data from multiple sources (files, instruments, databases, public sources) without creating new, static and inflexible data silos.

With “Sentient” you can:

1) Utilize data from multiple sources regardless of format and location using existing hardware and IT infrastructure, all in a secure, compliant and interoperable environment.

2) Draw from public and private data, instruments, applications, and Ontologies in order to combine and contextualize data in a meaningful way to create innovative custom Knowledge Bases.

3) Visually access, explore, interrogate, report, and query your data to uncover hidden relationships and stimulate innovation.

4) Accelerate discovery and share knowledge and insight with fellow researchers.

The Sentient Suite can help save time, money, and lives; an audacious statement for a bold product suite.

Save Time - One customer site was able to usefully integrate multiple databases and deploy several new applications in less than 6 weeks, where traditional technologies projected 4 to 6 months to do the same.

Save Money - Another customer site is using Sentient to combine data from disparate systems in order to discover universal biomarkers. These biomarkers, which will be applicable to several species, will reduce the need for animal testing, thus significantly decreasing cost.

Save Lives - Another group of customers are discovering and applying multiple “combinatorial” biomarkers to help determine patients at risk of organ failure.

By using Sentient to combine several data types, carry out advanced research, and screen multiple data sources for patterns indicating patient status at a molecular level, clinicians will save lives.

Sentient Suite Products --

Sentient Knowledge Explorer -- The Sentient Knowledge Explorer uses the power of “semantic technologies” to easily integrate data from virtually any source into coherent, unified Knowledge Bases.

This feature-rich product permits Thesauri and Ontology import, creation, management, and sharing using a visual, point-and-click interface. Its functionality combined with a flexible, standards based data model, enables users to rapidly integrate new datasets as needed.

Users can also create rich semantic queries directly from visual representations of the integrated data.

In addition to its core integration capabilities, the Knowledge Explorer provides visualization and filtering capabilities that improve user understanding of data and relationships and data driven research, reporting, and decision-making possible.

The Knowledge Explorer makes it possible to discover hidden relationships and patterns from previously disconnected datasets, by creating rich semantic queries directly from visual networks.

The Knowledge Explorer facilitates integrated knowledge management, hypothesis generation and discovery where data integration and exploitation is integral to furthering insight.

The Knowledge Explorer accelerates research and discovery through integrating multiple data sources, uncovering hidden relationships in datasets, generating and validating hypotheses, and sharing novel insights.

Sentient Web Query -- The Sentient Web Query makes multiple internal and external (public and commercial) databases accessible through an easy-to-use web interface. This includes connecting any number of relational, semantic, and specialty databases.

The Web Query provides researchers, analysts, and managers secure, compliant global access and the ability to interact with their data from anywhere in the world.

The Sentient Web Query features:

1) Web-based search of any relational database, web service or Sentient data store;

2) Predefined and ad-hoc drag and drop (non-programmatic) creation of complex search queries;

3) Data and metadata search, review, and audit capabilities;

4) Data interaction with third-party analytical applications; and

5) Export results to Excel, Text, HTML, XML, or Sentient Knowledge Explorer.

Applied Semantic Knowledgebase (ASK) -- IO Informatics’ Applied Semantic Knowledgebase, or “ASK”, provides researchers with the ability to perform hypothesis testing and informed decision-making in multiple areas of focus.

By employing ASK researchers have the freedom to focus on high level scientific goals and Not be bogged down by the time and resource consuming efforts associated with traditional data management and manual curation tasks.

Some examples, where ASK has been applied include identifying disease targets and drug efficacy during early-stage drug discovery, pre-symptomatic toxicity detection in safety assessments during drug development, enhancing the detection of pre-symptomatic organ failure for researchers analyzing biomarker patterns, and identifying and stratifying different cancer types for targeted clinical trials or treatment of patients.

Sentient Data Manager -- IO Informatics’ Data Manager provides automated input and organization of data from any source. Data Manager extracts flat files and proprietary file formats into open, compliant standards.

This efficiently creates well structured and contextually integrated data objects individually or in batch, from virtually any existing data, including data acquired from instruments or third party applications.

Minimal effort delivers immediate benefits including content and meta-data extraction, categorization, annotation, linking, monitoring, querying, and auditing.

Furthermore, the tool provides detection and integration of analytical applications and processing modules distributed across networks.

The Data Manager links with applications and instruments, and enables monitoring functionality to review data, applications and network activity for all users, within any connected network, in real-time.

This tool provides persistent, non-destructive processing audit, versioning, rollback, and re-playable processing histories for each data object, including capture of third party processing activity.

The Data Manager also provides layered information extraction, active linking and querying of data anchor points and annotation. This provides viewing of basic relationships between multiple data types according to their content using visualization tools such as matrix clustering and dendograms.

Sentient Process Manager -- The Sentient Process Manager connects data directly to the processes and workflows for human and automation-based activities alike.

The Process Manager provides customizable dashboard views and visibility based on existing user profiles. This tool enables organizations to manage complex projects and processes with real-time tracking and alerts and automate workflows with minimal programming.

Using a drag and drop configuration, you can integrate various workflows and their related data, across groups, processes, and their related laboratory information management systems, databases, and file directories.

The Sentient Process Manager features:

1) Web-based workflow engine;

2) Manage automated and human activities from a single location;

3) Drag & Drop configuration;

4) Automatic notification of task status; and

5) Provides managers a clear overview of current workflows.
